TRANSNATIONAL VILLAGE DAY
In the village of Dharmaj in central Gujarat, India, every year, an event is organised where villagers meet and collect donations for charitable projects to contribute to the development of the village. As Dharmaj is located in a rural region with a long history of international migration, many of the participating ‘villagers’ live abroad. For them, the event is an occasion to visit and meet their old school friends, neighbours, and relatives.
Transnational Village Day was made by Dakxin Bajrange, Mario Rutten and Sanderien Verstappen as part of the Provincial Globalisation Research Programme. Recorded in Gujarat, India. 2015.
