Presence in times of erasure

How to be present in times of erasure? As the world moves towards more authoritarian and repressive regimes, with a proliferation of images that promote exclusivist national ideologies and singular narratives while rendering invisible more diverse experiences and histories, this experimental video reflects on the question: “how to be present in times of erasure?”

These three ultrashort 40-second scenes, published in entanglements (2020), are meant to be viewed on a smartphone. They were produced as part of a course in Graphic Design at the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts at Leiden University (ACPA). Earlier versions were part of a presentation at the online conference 'Displacements' (2018), and exhibited at 'De Oude UB' in Leiden (June-August 2018).
